About:
Jacob is a working artist based in Southwestern Pennsylvania, where he earned his Bachelors of Fine Art from Slippery Rock University. Currently, he serves as Studio Manager for Artists Image Resource, a print and imaging laboratory on Pittsburgh's North Side. His interdisciplinary practice explores interpersonal communication and object sentimentality, combining digital media with analog printmaking techniques to create series and installations. He has exhibited work in galleries across the United States, earned awards as a member of the Mid-America College Art Association and Pittsburgh's Society of Sculptors, and presented in the Emerging Artists Talks at the 2024 SculptureX Symposium.
From the artist's statement:
"I'm interested in the devices through which people connect. My practice investigates the resulting ephemera of communication with each other, from the handwritten note to the electronic message, and what it says about intimacy between individuals. These artifacts are collected and transformed into digital montages of image and audio. Ink-jet and screen printing techniques separate the elements of new composites into layers which are recombined into variable series, explorations which are presented as installations of paper, light, and sound. The processes contextualize representative objects with the
narratives drawn from them: a voicemail inhabits space, a t-shirt gains voice, a letter carries memory. By inviting the viewer into personal stories, the work creates circumstances for exploring self in relation to others. It calls attention to the interpersonal nature of people and questions the extent of individuality, asking how we are in this world together."
